Hello,
I have aquired a Next Cube with a Dimension board and I'm trying to
resurect it from it's grave.

It appears the Hard drive is dead since it says "Waiting for
Drive....." when I execute the "bsd" command from the monitor.

So I figure I need a new SCSI drive and some software.
So my questions are?

1. What OS should I use to run both the next "040" board and make use
of the Dimension board?

2. Where would one locate this software?

3. If I were to get a new SCSI drive what should I look for? I seem to
read that 2 Gig was the limit and I figure I need a 5.25 form factor
due to the mounting size of the Cube.

4. The optical drive had a CD in it (Lotus Improve Beta 1) which
appears to be a non standard size. Is there a special Disk Caddy for
this drive since I see the OS comes on CD? Again where would one locate
one?

Thanks for any help out there.

Greetings! Any of the NextStep 3.x or Openstep versions should be
capable of driving the dimension board (probably the 2.x as well, but
I'm not personally familiar with these). My nextstation uses a 3.5"
scsi drive, If the cube has mounting rails for a 5.25 that is fine or a
3.5" with adapter rails.

For os install, you need access to an external cd and a floppy drive
(both available on ebay). It's probably easier to install a next
floppy and snag an external scsi cd than it is to find an os
distribution on Next Floptical.

As per OS source, good luck! I've seen an OpenStep 4.2 floating about
on emule before and you can always try http://blackholeinc.com, but
otherwise you have to beg and borrow.
